Pahalgam Terror Attack Highlights: In a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced 5 retaliatory measures. These include suspending Indus Water Treaty, expelling Pak military attaches, and shutting down the Attari land-transit post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting over the Pahalgam terror attack in which at least 26 people were killed. Besides the prime minister, the CCS comprises Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and assured the country that the perpetrators will soon “see loud and clear response”.
According to witnesses, a few terrorists indiscriminately fired at tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday. The attack took place in Baisaran, also known as ‘mini Switzerland’.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called for an all-party meet to be held tomorrow. “In the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam I’ve called an all party meeting tomorrow afternoon. I have sent out letters of invitation to all major political parties, all honourable members of parliament from J&K & the leader of opposition in the J&K assembly,” he wrote in a post on X.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to reports. Mint couldn’t verify the reports circulating on social media.

The Pahalgam terror attack, being dubbed as the deadliest attack in the valley since 2019 Pulwama strike, comes as US Vice President JD Vance is on India visit and just as the tourist and trekking season is picking up momentum.

Following the attack, PM Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi trip and returned to India. Meanwhile, world leaders including Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the deadly attack.

US President Donald Trump reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the deadly terrorist attack. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that President Trump conveyed his deepest condolences to PM Modi and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
