In the wake of the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Jammu, the Indian Army is redeploying troops in the area in order to prevent further incidents of extremist aggression there.

The redeployment is focused on tackling the terrorists, who are highly trained and have infiltrated in large numbers in the area, Army sources informed India Today TV.

The Indian Army has also deployed around 500 Para Commandos in the area to hunt down highly trained Pakistani terrorists.

The terrorists, mostly Pakistani and operating with their local guides and support systems, have been working in the region to revive terrorism in the otherwise peaceful Jammu region.

Around 50 to 55 terrorists are operating in small groups comprising two-three operatives in the area and are working with the local support in the region, top sources in the security establishment informed India Today.

The military and other security agencies in the area are now tightening their intelligence and counter-terror grid in the region to tackle the infiltration attempts there, they said.

The planned infiltration bids by terrorists are now being thoroughly checked along the international border in the area with focus on strengthening the second tier of the counter-terrorist grid.

“The intelligence gathering grid is also being tightened as the focus is also on to plug the local support that these terrorists are getting in the area, which is covered with thick forests”, sources added.

The Indian Army has already pushed troops in the area equipped with a fleet of over 200 armoured protected vehicles which have all been acquired under emergency procurement procedures.

As per sources, over 200 specialist protected vehicles have been deployed in the region to tackle any terrorist attacks and troops are moving around in the area for operations in these vehicles only.
