According to authorities, two terrorists were killed in the battle in Sopore, J&K.
Two militants were killed in a two-day anti-militancy operation that ended on Friday in north Kashmir’s Sopore. One civilian and two soldiers were also injured in the exchange of fire. Classes have been suspended in all educational institutes in Sopore as a precautionary measure.
“The encounter in Sopore’s Nowpora started on Thursday night. This morning, two terrorists have been killed. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition have been recovered. Their identification is being done. One of them has been identified as Saifullah. We are ascertaining their affiliations,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vidhi Kumar Birdi said.
One civilian and two soldiers were also injured. “The condition of the injured is stable,” an official said.

On the ongoing elections and the rise in militancy, Mr. Birdi said, “The Sopore operation showed how alert security forces are to deal with the situation.”
Firing between security forces and terrorists in Sopore
Earlier in the day, classes were suspended at all educational institutes in Sopore. “As a precautionary measure, classwork has been suspended. We are monitoring the situation. I advise all to stay away from the encounter site,” Shabir Ahmad Raina, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore, said.
The gunfight in Sopore’s Nowpora area started during a joint search operation carried out by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police in Sopore. Earlier on Wednesday, a gunfight between militants and security forces left two soldiers injured in Bandipora.
