On Tuesday, the Taliban, who administer Afghanistan, demanded a stop to all Swedish engagement there. The action was taken one month after a Quran was burned in front of a mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, said in a statement that the decision was made because the holy book and Muslim values were insulted.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is ordering the cessation of all activities of Sweden in Afghanistan after the insulting of the holy Quran and the granting of permission for the insulting of Muslim beliefs.”
