According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the country’s primary national security goal will be to prevent the revival of terrorism coming from Afghanistan.

“With regard to Afghanistan, we’ve made clear and we’ve demonstrated that since ending America’s longest war, that we would continue to be focused on our core national security interest in preventing the resurgence of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, and if necessary, taking action to deal with it,” Blinken said at a press conference in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

In recent months, Blinken said, “I think we’ve demonstrated quite clearly our ability to do just that, including eliminating a senior al-Qaida leader who was resident in Afghanistan.”

In order to increase its ability to combat any terrorism that could be based in or coming from Afghanistan, he said, the US is also collaborating with allies and neighbors.

In addition, he said, “the Taliban is, of course, ISIS-Khorasan’s savage enemy and is acting against that organization.” Despite this, we have been very clear and, as I said, have shown our ability to continue taking the required steps to safeguard our security from any possible Afghan-based terrorism.

According to analysts, the Taliban are unable to drive Daesh out of Afghanistan.

According to university professor Mohammad Ishaq Atmar, “Taliban’s capacity is not at the level to remove Daesh threat because if they had the ability, two years would have been enough for them to address the concerns of the world and the people of Afghanistan in this regard.”

According to leaked Pentagon papers, Afghanistan is in danger of once again serving as a center for organizing Daesh operations.

During the previous two years of the Taliban’s control in Afghanistan, Daesh has taken credit for a number of significant attacks in the nation.
