India’s frontiers are under “double threat” from Pakistan and China: Rajnath
In reference to the “double threat” that China and Pakistan pose to India’s frontiers, military Minister Rajnath Singh stressed on Thursday that India must concentrate on military technology improvement to successfully combat the threats.
He advocated for cooperation between DRDO and academics in this area while speaking at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) academics Conclave’s opening ceremony in Delhi.
Why is this story important?
Singh made his remarks the day after the key G20 summit in Jammu & Kashmir, which Pakistan and China boycotted.
Ladakh is mostly under Chinese sovereignty, while Pakistan claims J&K.
India’s decision to revoke J&K’s special status under Article 370 in 2019 was vigorously opposed by Pakistan.
In addition, since a fatal military conflict in Ladakh in 2020, ties between China and India have remained strained.
India must make technological advancement because of a “double threat” Singh
Singh said that India needed to advance technologically since the nation was facing a “double threat” on its frontiers, which were Pakistan and China.
The defense minister praised the Indian Army for its professionalism and bravery, saying that such advancements were important to protect both the army and the nation’s interests.
Improvement will serve both national and military interests: Singh
We are one of the biggest militaries in the world right now, and people talk about how courageous our army is everywhere. It becomes essential that we have a technologically sophisticated army in such a circumstance to defend the national interests,” he stated.
The defense minister urges DRDO and academic cooperation
Singh also urged for cooperation in the defense industry between academic institutions and the DRDO.
“India’s research sector will grow in the same proportion as this partnership grows,” he added.
He said, “I want all of you to attempt to connect with each other at the individual and institutional level as well. Although all of you will connect with each other via collaboration.
Singh urges the development of defensive technologies with dual use.
According to Singh, the partnership between DRDO and academics would also help the organization develop dual-use technologies.
In this manner, he stated, “DRDO would advance towards the creation of dual-use technologies if the relationship between DRDO and academics is created.
Dual-use technologies, in particular, are those that are used to both civil and military applications.
