Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan launched a fresh attack on former

army chief Gen (retd.) Qamar Javed Bajwa and accused him of “hiring” former Pakistani ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqaani to lobby against him there.

A report by The Express Tribune said the PTI chief spoke to a select group of journalists in Lahore on Sunday and claimed that Haqqani was tasked with campaigning against “me while promoting Gen [retd] Qamar”. He also claimed that Bajwa’s set-up was “still working in the establishment”.

However, Imran Khan added that the establishment could play an important role in pulling the country out of its current state and fresh general elections were the only solution to the current political

instability and economic woes.

Khan said that the establishment can play an important role in getting the country out of all crises.

“Talking about the ruling coalition filing a vote of no confidence against Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, Imran claimed that “the establishment had asked our [PTI’s] three members of the Punjab Assembly to remain neutral for the vote of confidence”,” reported The Express Tribune.

Recently, Khan criticised the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government for “pushing the nation towards terror incidents.” He made the remarks during a consultative meeting attended by the

party’s senior leadership and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s leader Moonis Elahi.

“The imposed, corrupt and incompetent rulers are pushing the nation towards [terror] incidents,” The News International quoted Imran Khan as saying.

Imran Khan has often criticized Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on national security. His statement regarding terrorism comes at a time when Pakistan is witnessing an increase in terror attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Khan was reported by The News International as saying, “Leaving national security in the hands of [Asif] Zardari’s politically immature son is criminal idiocy.”

According to an article from The News International, Bannu’s Counter-Terrorism Department has been dealing with hostage situations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (CTD). Furthermore, Balochistan has experienced cross-border assaults and explosions. Khan demanded that the current administration stop taking advantage of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRS) and called for immediate elections, according to

The News International. He emphasised that Pakistan’s economy could only be

managed by a government with broad popular support.

Imran Khan asserted, “Only a government with a public mandate will be able to control the economy.”
