The Doha deal was the first stem where the dissolution of Ghani government from Afghanistan begun said Afghanistan’s former national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib.

Speaking with Voice of America (VOA) Dari in an interview broadcast on Friday, Mohib said that one of the biggest mistakes of Afghanistan’s former leadership was not understanding the near certainty of the United States’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Unfortunately, Zalmai Khalilzad was bringing the Taliban to Kabul, and he even was telling us, do not put up a defense,” said Mohib.

Hamdullah Mohib stated that Ashraf Ghani fled the country in order to avert a civil war.

“We had our own credible information, the Americans had too, and also such information was obtained from open sources that the ISI had a plan to disgrace the president of Afghanistan and the Taliban had planned to execute the president,” said Mohib.

In a separate interview with CBS, Mohib said that Afghanistan’s leadership had not understood that the foreign forces were certainly going to withdraw from Afghanistan.

“I think, you know, not seeing that writing on the wall about the withdrawal … We should have understood that the United States had made its decision and would withdraw under any circumstances. And I think that probably is one of the reasons we weren’t able to secure another outcome,” Mohib told CBS.

“Ashraf Ghani’s escape was a big betrayal of the people of Afghanistan; they left a government with its possibilities and a nation with its pride on the brink of collapse,” said Mahdi Afzali, a university teacher.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid declined from commenting on Mohib’s remarks, dismissing Mohib as merely a free “individual,” whose words are not to be taken into account.
