In the third phase of the Back to Village (B2V3) programme, around 64 panchayats in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district witnessed wide range of cultural events and activities to resolve any issues the citizens of the district are facing.
The day witnessed Gram sabhas, cultural events featuring Dogri folk dance and songs, sports activities, presentation of coffee table booklet, laying of foundation stone, griha pravesh of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) beneficiaries and inauguration of newly completed works in Panchayats.
During the public meets, people raised a multitude of issues seeking augmentation of power supply, better Medicare facilities, road connectivity, potable water, school up-gradation, availability of ambulances for patients, among others issues.
Bal Sabhas and women sabhas were also organized in these panchayats to spread awareness amongst women and children about different schemes for their welfare. During these meets, women were also educated about the importance of being self-reliant. They were given the information about formation of Self-Help Groups (SHG) and various skill development programmes, besides other state and centrally sponsored schemes.
The Visiting officers inspected public services. The designated officers were accompanied by officials from concerned line departments to ensure proper understanding and recording of grievances.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Piyush Singla sought active participation of people in the flagship programme. He asked the rural people to grab the opportunity and get their issues resolved during the programme.
He added that the feedback obtained will help to strengthen the Panchayati Raj and to improve delivery of village-specific services.
