Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Friday spoke with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar on the phone.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a phone call today from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Ishaq Dar,” a statement by the Saudi foreign ministry said.

The leaders discussed “developments in the region and ways to reduce tensions while safeguarding the region’s security and stability,” according to the statement.

Pakistan has been in a tense situation with its neighbor Afghanistan, following a series of attacks on security personnel by militants on its territory that it blamed on the ruling Taliban.

On Sunday, Pakistan launched a series of air strikes on targets in Afghanistan. The Taliban, who have denied any involvement in militant attacks on its southern neighbor, on Thursday attacked Pakistani forces claiming to have killed and captured dozens.
