Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government intends to escalate military operations in Gaza and resume the war after completing the first phase of the ongoing deal with Hamas, without moving to a second phase, Israel’s Channel 14 reported yesterday, citing a political source.

The source added that Netanyahu’s government is considering extending the first phase for up to two weeks to secure the release of the largest possible number of hostages, particularly those still alive, even if this means releasing additional Palestinian prisoners.

According to the source, Israel intends to conclude the deal and then launch a large-scale “unprecedented” attack on Gaza. The source noted that this decision has been made with American support.

The source further explained that “the plan involves a major military operation, including deploying a significant number of ground forces into specific areas of Gaza after Israeli troops have had a period of rest during the current truce, along with receiving substantial military reinforcements from the United States.”
