J&K terror attack: two people hurt, security operations underway to kill terrorists
A soldier and a porter were injured after an Army vehicle was attacked by terrorists near Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday night, Army officials said. The attack killed four people – two soldiers and two porters.
Authorities have shut down the Gondola cable car in Gulmarg, a popular skiing resort for tourists, following the terror attack.
The terrorists carried out an ambush on the Army vehicle when the vehicle reached the remote Botpathri area. The vehicle was en route from Botpathri, which is five kilometres from the Line of Control (LOC), when the terrorists launched an attack.
Security forces on Friday launched a massive search operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulmarg sector following the terror attack, officials said. The combing and search operation has been launched along the LoC and the area near the site of the attack.
Security forces have sealed the routes around the site of the attack.
Officials said the forces were using human and technical intelligence inputs to aid the search operation which has been launched to trace and kill the terrorists behind the attack.
Sources said the role of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), specialised units that have previously carried out various cross-border attacks, has not been ruled out.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed Army officials to give swift reply to eliminate terrorists.
GANDHIS CONDOLE DEATHS
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi condoled the deaths and accused the Centre of failing to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir amid a spate of terror attacks and targeted killings of migrants in the past few days.
“The news of the death of our brave soldiers in the cowardly attack on an Army vehicle in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely sad. Two porters also lost their lives in the attack. I pay my tribute to the bravehearts and express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families,” he tweeted in Hindi.
“The policies of the NDA government at the Centre have completely failed to establish security and peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Contrary to their claims, the reality is that the state is living under the shadow of danger due to continuous terror activities, attacks on our soldiers and targeted killings of civilians. The government should immediately take accountability and restore peace in the valley at the earliest and ensure the safety of the Army and civilians,” he said.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday condoled the loss of lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg, and said no amount of condemnation is enough for such terror acts.
“The news of the martyrdom of two soldiers in the terrorist attack in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely saddening. Two porters have also lost their lives in the attack. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” she tweeted in Hindi.
