- At least 47 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza after yet another day of Israeli attacks, medical sources told Al Jazeera. Israel issued evacuation orders in Khan Younis, where Palestinian families streamed out – many on foot – in the middle of the night to seek safety. In Deir el-Balah, where an Israeli evacuation order was already in place, Israeli bombing continues.
- An Israeli delegation has reportedly arrived in Cairo for a new round of ceasefire talks, after the US ambassador to the UN told the Security Council that a deal was “in sight”.
- A 14-hour Israeli raid has concluded in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem. Three Palestinians were killed there in an Israeli drone strike.
- The final evening of the Democratic National Convention is proceeding in the US city of Chicago, as thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters gather nearby, and no space for pro-Palestinian voices on the convention stage.
- One protester and “uncommitted” voter at the protest in Chicago, Sidney Larier, says he is disillusioned with the Democratic Party’s stance on Israel’s war on Gaza, adding that he would not vote for Vice President Kamala Harris if the election were held today.
- “I want to be clear, though I am persuadable. I do recognise the reality of two-party politics in America, and I do want to defeat Donald Trump. I clearly see what that threat represents,” Larier, who is from Pennsylvania, told Al Jazeera.
- “But again, I cannot prioritise the needs of myself when I see what is being carried out in our name, with our tax dollars.”
- Larier said Harris should publicly endorse a ceasefire, and especially an arms embargo on Israel.
- “If they won’t see the moral argument, at least see the electoral argument – that they can and will win this election in a landslide if they’re able to pull off a ceasefire. If they cannot, I’m very sceptical of what they might be able to accomplish in November.”
- It’s the last day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), with Vice President – and the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate – Kamala Harris set to take to the stage in the next few hours to deliver a major speech.
- But throughout the convention, which has been ongoing all week, there has been no space afforded to any Palestinian-Americans or pro-Palestinian delegates, even as protesters gather nearby on a daily basis.
- However, Muhamad Sankari, of the US Palestinian Community Network, said that he was attending the protest not to take part in the DNC, but to loudly demand an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, which has received US support since the very beginning.
- “Our strategy out here is not to ask for a seat at the table with the Democratic Party. We’re here to demand the Democratic Party ends the genocide,” Sankari told Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo. “We don’t want a seat at the table with the genocidal party, we want to end the genocide.”
