Police Commissioner David Manning has issued a stern warning to the security forces of Papua New Guinea, saying that the situation in the Highlands is still volatile and that they must stay vigilant.
He said the security services needed to take a tougher stance against lawbreakers, and that improved collaboration between interested parties was having a positive effect.
A recent uptick in deaths and tribal violence in Enga province has prompted the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Phillip Mitna, to announce the deployment of almost 200 security officers along with two armored vehicles.
