The Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture department for Zabul province, Mawlawi Rahmatullah Hammad Niazi, told the media on Sunday, August 8, that two women and one man had each received a two-year term of imprisonment for adultery.

Earlier, the Taliban reportedly arrested these individuals for the offense of adultery before publicly whipping them.

In the southern province of Kandahar, the Taliban has previously lashed individuals charged with adultery, fornication, and theft.

Not long ago, two men and one woman in the eastern province of Nangarhar were also flogged for the crime of adultery by the Taliban.

After being arrested on suspicion of engaging in an illicit sexual relationship, these three people—who lived together—were prosecuted and given sentences.

One of the principal transgressions condemned by Allah in the Muslim holy book, the Quran, is adultery, also known as extramarital sex, which is seen as a breach of the marriage relationship.

Previously, the Taliban leader told the governors at their meeting that Sharia law must be applied because human-made laws cannot be.
