Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, has chosen to retaliate harshly against Imran Khan’s followers. On May 16, PM Sharif convened a meeting of the National Security Committee with Army Chief General Munir in attendance. The Pakistani government chose to use Army Laws to prosecute Imran Khan’s followers who damaged state property. The government fiercely denounced the violence after Khan’s supporters are accused of damaging government buildings and an air force facility. Even further, the Pakistani government claimed that this kind of assault falls under the “category of terrorism.” According to a lawyer, military courts are not required to maintain the same level of proof as ordinary courts. Violent demonstrations were seen all around Pakistan after Imran Khan, a former prime minister, was taken into custody in the Al-Qadri case. Since then, Pakistan Rangers have detained prominent PTI officials, employees, and Imran Khan supporters.
